Gerry Tuten lives and paints in her studio outside Philadelphia, PA and in Hyannis Port, MA. Her work is inspired by the natural world, she is more interested in process and healing than in the product of art. She is an avid painter examining both the micro and macro worlds. By listening deeply, Gerry allows the mind to get out of the way, reaching a deeper place where paint can energetically and freely express. Organic forms are explored using the visceral texture of paint laid down with spontaneity, force, power and imagination. In acrylic and mixed media she creates dream worlds, large and small format and abstractions, playful landscapes with botanical forms with bugs and sea creatures, creating rich layers of colorful tapestry.
“There is a balance to be struck between controlling the painting and giving myself over to the mystery of the unconscious, which is where the new, the unsafe, and the worthwhile originate. If I don’t allow for that unconscious force to have a voice in my process, the painting has no life, and the work holds no interest for me or for the viewer.”
