About Gallery at Four India
The Gallery at Four India is a collection of 19th, 20th and 21st Centuries of American Art and art objects. The gallery represents some of the finest contemporary artists known for their traditional realism. Each summer season the Gallery focuses on presenting quality exhibits designed to educate and encourage new and old collectors to visit the on-going exhibitions relating to the region. From the School of the Hudson River to Impressionism to Marine Art and Modern, you will never be disappointed in a visit to the Gallery.
The Gallery at Four India was established by Kathleen Knight in 1989 as Nantucket's first 19th centruy exclusie art gallery located on the 2nd floor above the Nantucket Gourmet shop.
From 1989 to today, The Gallery at Four India has evolved into a special exhibitions gallery as a second location to our Gallery now located at 35 Main Street.
Kathleen Knight has been a resident of Nantucket since 1979, shortly after graduating Massachusetts College of Art with her BFA in Sculpture.
Knight has an extensive background in the arts, not only as a gallery owner but a known collector of the Boston School for the past 32 years and brings her expertise to the business of buying and selling American paintings. A qualified appraiser of paintings, she is a member of the New England Appraisers Association.
Since 1996 Knight has served as a trustee and Overseer at The Art Institute of Boston where she has a scholarship fund established to provide two students a year with tuition assistance. The Kathleen Knight Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in memory of friend and artist C. Robert Perrin, to be awarded to a disadvantaged, diabled or minority fine arts student who has excelled in studio and academic work. |
